Epcot

Day 48, May 19, 2011, Epcot

Rest Day no miles

Best Moment – This is the Magic Kingdom – “The Happiest Place on Earth.”

Worst Moment – You might wonder how there could be any unhappy moments at the Happiest Place on Earth, but there was one.  The attraction Mission Space, is a virtual reality ride that creates a sensation that you are really traveling fast, with lots of turns.  Not a great place for someone susceptible to motion sickness, like Neita is.  We went on the “intense training ride”.  Bad mistake.

From Fort Wilderness, you take the Disney transportation system to catch a bus that will take you nearly to the front gate of any of the Disney parks at Disney World.  We arrived just before the park opened for the day and got into the prime attractions without a wait.  Magic.

There were two things that really impressed me about Epcot.  First, it seemed like there weren’t very many people.   In Disneyland, it seems that there are always crowds and always lines for any attraction.  That didn’t seem to be the case here.  I don’t think that we had to wait for anything very long, if at all.  It might have been because of the time of year – school’s not out yet for most of the country.  I was able to see all of the attractions that interested me without a wait for any, unless it was a show that was in progress when we arrived.

The second thing that really impressed me about Epcot was the beautiful gardens.  Neita and I both agreed that our gardens at the Russian Bonita would look like these – right!  An attraction in the Land portion of Epcot described alternative ways to farm that will improve productivity and allow farmers to raise crops more efficiently without pesticides or inorganic fertilizers.

One thing that really surprised me is that you can purchase alcohol nearly anywhere here and walk around with it.  They even have beer tasting at the German area, wine tasting in France and Italy, sake tasting in Japan, and margarita stands in the Mexican areas.

Tomorrow will be a challenging day – we’re off to Daytona Beach.  I’m still off the route map and the AAA maps don’t’ show the “less well traveled” roads through Orlando very well.  I don’t think that the distance is too bad, but the route will be a real test of my route finding skills.
